Hip pain physio and rehabilitation in Basingstoke
Hip and groin pain, tendon problems and rehab after hip surgery at Basing View.

Hip pain shows up in different ways: a deep ache in the groin on walking, pain on the outside of the hip that keeps you awake when you lie on it, stiffness getting out of a chair, or weakness that has lingered after a hip replacement. The hip is a big, strong joint, and most hip pain responds well to the right strengthening and hands-on treatment.
Our Basingstoke clinic assesses the hip, the back and the knee together, because pain around the hip often comes from more than one place. We also provide rehabilitation after hip replacement surgery, at the clinic or at home.
You do not need a GP referral. Book online, or call or text 07818 099994, and we will see you at the clinic or, if travel is hard, at home.
What is usually going on
Common causes of hip pain and rehabilitation we treat in Basingstoke
Gluteal tendinopathy and bursitis
Pain on the outside of the hip, worse lying on that side, climbing stairs or standing on one leg. A tendon problem rather than simple inflammation, and it responds to a specific loading programme.
Hip osteoarthritis
Groin ache and stiffness, often first noticed putting on socks or getting out of the car. Strengthening and movement are the first treatment, and we work alongside your consultant if surgery is being considered.
Hip impingement and labral problems
A sharp, pinching groin pain in deep squats, sitting low or twisting, common in younger and sporting adults.
Rehabilitation after hip replacement
The operation replaces the joint; the rehabilitation restores the strength, balance and confidence. A structured programme makes the difference between a good result and a great one.
Groin and hip flexor strains
Common in football, running and racket sports, and prone to coming back if the strength work is skipped.
Pain referred from the lower back
The back and hip share nerves and muscles. We check both so the right thing gets treated.
Your first appointment
What the assessment involves
Your first appointment is a 30-minute assessment and treatment. We go through how the pain started, what it stops you doing, and any surgery or scans you have had.
We examine how the hip moves, where it is tender, how strong the gluteal muscles are, how you walk and balance, and how the lower back is behaving.
You leave with a clear explanation and a short plan. For post-operative patients we follow your surgeon's protocol and progress it with you.

How long it takes
What recovery looks like
Tendon problems around the hip improve over weeks rather than days, and the exercises matter more than anything we do in the room. We keep the programme short and specific so it actually gets done.
After a hip replacement, most people are walking well within weeks; the strength and balance work continues for several months and is what gets you back to walking distances, gardening and sport.
When to be seen sooner
Most hip pain and rehabilitation is a nuisance rather than an emergency. Get seen the same day, by us or your GP, if you have:
- Sudden severe hip pain after a fall, or you cannot put weight on the leg
- A hot, swollen hip with fever or feeling generally unwell
- Numbness around the groin or difficulty controlling bladder or bowel alongside back and hip pain
- After hip surgery: a sudden change in leg length, position or ability to move the leg

“I came for a session two weeks ago with Nehal at Physipro and she was able to identify what was wrong with my back immediately. Ever since this session and the exercises she has given me to do at home I have seen vast improvements.”
Questions we get asked
Hip pain and rehabilitation in Basingstoke: your questions
Do you offer hip rehabilitation after a hip replacement?
Yes, at the Basingstoke clinic and as home visits. We follow your surgeon's protocol and progress the strength, balance and walking work with you.
Why does my hip hurt more at night?
Pain on the outside of the hip when lying on it is typical of gluteal tendinopathy, which is a tendon problem rather than simple bursitis. It responds to a specific loading programme and advice on sleeping positions.
How much does hip treatment cost in Basingstoke?
Initial assessment and treatment is £55 (30 minutes) and follow-ups are £45. Home visits are £80 for the first visit and £70 after. Prices are on our therapy costs page.
Can physiotherapy help hip arthritis?
Yes. Strengthening, movement and advice are the recommended first treatment for hip osteoarthritis and reduce pain for most people. If surgery is eventually needed, a stronger hip recovers faster.
Do I need a referral?
No. Book directly with our Chartered Physiotherapists. For insured appointments, contact us first with your policy details.
