Back pain physio in Basingstoke
Lower back pain, sciatica and stiffness treated at our Basing View clinic.

Most adults get back pain at some point. For some it is a sudden lock-up bending to pick something up; for others a nagging ache after a day at a desk or behind the wheel, sometimes with pain running into the buttock or leg. It is rarely dangerous, and it is very treatable.
At our Basingstoke clinic we work out which level of disc, nerve, spinal joints and muscles are involved, treat the pain with hands-on physiotherapy and acupuncture where it helps, and give you a set of core stability exercises so the back gets strong enough that the problem stops coming back.
You do not need a GP referral. Book online, or call or text 07818 099994, and we will see you at the clinic or, if travel is hard, at home.
What is usually going on
Common causes of back pain we treat in Basingstoke
Mechanical lower back pain
The most common type: joints and muscles that have been overloaded or held still too long. It responds well to movement and treatment.
Sciatica and nerve pain
Pain, pins and needles or numbness running down the leg from an irritated nerve in the back, often from a disc. Most cases settle with the right treatment and time.
Disc problems
Discs can bulge and irritate nearby nerves. A scan is rarely needed to start treatment, and most disc-related pain improves without surgery.
Posture and desk-related pain
Long hours sitting, especially with a poor set-up, stiffens the back and hips. We look at the workstation as part of the plan.
Sports and lifting injuries
Strains from the gym, golf, running or a heavy lift. Strengthening is the way back and the way to stop a repeat.
Wear and tear and stiffness
Age-related changes are normal and are not a sentence to pain. Keeping the back moving and strong is what matters.
Your first appointment
What the assessment involves
Your first appointment is a 30-minute assessment and treatment. We listen to how the pain started, what makes it worse, whether it travels into the leg, and what you need to get back to.
We examine how your back bends and twists, test the nerves in the legs if there is any leg pain, and look at the hips and the way you move.
Treatment starts the same day. You leave knowing what is going on, with three or four exercises that fit your day rather than a long list.

How long it takes
What recovery looks like
Most episodes of mechanical back pain improve markedly within two to three weeks of treatment and the right movement. Sciatica often takes longer, and we will tell you honestly what to expect.
The exercises are what stop the next episode. We keep them few and specific so they get done.
When to be seen sooner
Most back pain is a nuisance rather than an emergency. Get seen the same day, by us or your GP, if you have:
- Numbness around the groin or inner thighs, or difficulty controlling your bladder or bowel. Go to A&E the same day
- Weakness in both legs, or pain and pins and needles down both legs
- Back pain after a significant fall or accident
- Severe pain at night with fever, unexplained weight loss or feeling generally unwell

“I do use this clinic, very professional service, helpful good advice and after all very warm and friendly atmosphere. I do highly recommend it — if you ever need physiotherapy treatment this is the right address. You will not regret.”
“I came for a session two weeks ago with Nehal at Physipro and she was able to identify what was wrong with my back immediately. Ever since this session and the exercises she has given me to do at home I have seen vast improvements.”
Questions we get asked
Back pain in Basingstoke: your questions
Should I rest or keep moving with back pain?
Keep moving, within what you can tolerate. Bed rest slows recovery for most back pain. Your physiotherapist will show you what is safe and build it up.
Do I need an MRI for back pain?
Usually not. A physiotherapy assessment can diagnose most back pain, and scans often show changes that are normal for your age. If we think a scan would change your treatment, we will say so.
Can physio help sciatica?
Yes. Most sciatica settles with treatment that reduces nerve irritation, restores movement and builds strength. We also use acupuncture alongside hands-on treatment where it helps.
How much does back pain treatment cost in Basingstoke?
Initial assessment and treatment is £55 (30 minutes), follow-ups are £45. Home visits are £80 for the first visit and £70 after.
Is my desk set-up causing my back pain?
It is often a contributor. We look at how and where you sit, how long for, and your screen height, and give practical changes alongside treatment.
